It's a new video essay! All about punching! Which I realize might seem like a weird topic.
A few months back I watched Rian Johnson's Brick for the first time in over a decade (spoilers: it's great) and was struck by the way punches were visualized in the movie. Each one was shot in a different way and they all felt like they had real impact.
So this planted a seed in my brain that, after several months of thinking about punching in movies a lot, grew into this.
This is also a video essay for which I actually shot some of my own footage. After making a bunch of these I've gotten to the point where I want to start playing with form a little bit more. There are a million people doing the classic "edit movie clips with a voiceover and mellow music" style, and I want to try moving beyond that a bit. So expect some more stuff like that in the future, and hopefully the experimentation can go much further.
And good news: this weekend while I'm visiting my parents, I'll also be shooting a new video with them,
