What if John Woo Directed Squirrel Girl?

I've had this concept since last November. We've been working on it for the past couple months. I'm really excited about this one.

Obviously, it's the latest video in the "Alternate Universe Comic Book Movies" series, and this might be the silliest one. Also maybe my favorite. But that could be because I've had it on my mind nonstop for months.

If you haven't read The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl by Ryan North and Erica Henderson, you really should. It's probably my favorite Marvel series of the past few years. It's just relentlessly delightful and hilarious and ridiculously fun. There's a story where Mole Man proposes to Squirrel Girl and asks her to be his "Mole Ma'am." It introduced the characters Chipmunk Hunk and Koi Boi. Thor gets turned into a cat. Squirrel Girl fights Galactus on the moon but then they become friends.

Anyway, in the past couple years, Squirrel Girl has gone from a D-list character I found amusing to one of my favorite comic book characters. So, naturally, I had to make one of these videos about her.

We've got a long list of director/character pairings, and for a few years one of those ideas was "What if Dario Argento directed Squirrel Girl?" I think that could be really funny, but a theatrical, ultra-stylized giallo horror parody would be reeeeally hard to pull off on our micro budget, and also the audience for that video would be, like, ten people.

So it was never a priority, and then last fall I decided I wanted to finally do a Squirrel Girl video, so I started trying to find a new director to use.

And as soon as I thought of John Woo, the image of squirrel guns firing nuts in slow motion appeared in my mind, and that was it.

So this is basically Unbeatable Squirrel Girl filtered through The Killer and Hard Boiled. It's got Chipmunk Hunt, Tippy Toe, Kraven the Hunter, and Squirrel Girl's roommate, Nancy, but obviously the whole thing is relentlessly violent with non-stop slow motion.

We shot this one all over the place, from NYC to Saratoga, for the past month. Every member of the team (in particular Chloe) killed it.  I hope you all enjoy it.
