Black Mirror: Pokémon Go

By now you've probably seen this, since it's been out for two days. Sorry about the lateness of this post; I published the video right before boarding a plane on my way home from Comic Con, and now that I'm back in the real world I've been catching up on life/work/sleep.

This video was actually supposed to drop a week ago. We rushed it from idea to finished product in seven days so it would be out before San Diego Comic Con started. The day before Comic Con, right as I finished editing, it occurred to me that if released then it would immediately be buried under the SDCC media barrage, so I pushed it a week. So, yes, in that time another video combining Pokémon Go and Black Mirror was released (which I didn't see until yesterday), but they're different enough that I don't think it matters.

We don't usually jump on trends with our videos, but this was a rare case where the trend was SO massive and odd and fascinating and also tied to popular culture we know well that it seemed too good to pass up (also within a few days of the game launching I received several texts from friends requesting we make a video about it). And us being us, we made it weird and dark enough that it would alienate most potential viewers anyway. I mean, the thing ends with a shot of a Squirtly fetus.

(The Squirtle and the tank it's in were the toughest part of the whole thing, since prop making is not my strong suit. If you're dying to know, the Squirtle is molded from a pound of breakfast sausage onto a skeleton made from a clothes hanger. It is exactly as gross as it sounds.)

After many months with very few videos, I'm proud to say we've released 3 in the past month, totaling over 20 minutes. Now that Comic Con is done, we're back to work, so expect some pretty rad stuff over the next month.
