I made it through 15 minutes of his special and I think he finally said a word before I turned it off. I like his fishing podcast and watch most episodes. We need Casey off the top more. This was his weakest set but when he was opening they had a great energy for the show.

However, if someone who doesn’t know anything about the show (or the Austin comedy scene in general) is scrolling the Netflix comedy section and clicks on it, I can almost promise it will not be what they were looking for.

He understands that you need hard luck stories, and I diverse pool of regulars. I also heard Tony talking about how one of his producers has worked on Big award shows before. He seems like a genuinely nice guy, but he ain’t a good comic. Best thing Nickens can do is read the criticisms, taken’em to heart, make the necessary adjustments and get better every week.

He's an alright comedian, he can be pretty funny, but he is not this new up and coming heavy hitter reincarnation of Pryor that he thinks he is. A lot of his roast material is literally just, "yo ass...goofy mfer" I definitely think he was intimidated or made self conscious by the "guy with the hands" (I don't know his name lol) and thought that he could flex by picking low hanging fruit. Not to mention the cringe of him trying to lean into this "edgy trying to get canceled comedy" while: A: Not really being that funny or edgy B: Not commiting, apologizing, and backpedalling when the heat gets to hot He definitely needs to take a step back and come back down to earth. The boost in fame from Kill Tony helped his career but not his personality or material

2024-07-18 23:16:04 +0000 UTCI never got the appeal of David Lucas. I live in Austin so when the boom was first happening, I was going to comedy shows every other night. Never really found him funny. And now whenever friends come to visit, they obviously want to go to comedy shows to see the people they see on Kill Tony live. Two of the three shows we went to that week had David Lucas on the bill, one at Mothership and the other at Redban's Secret Show (which is where I first seen him 3+ years ago.) He had an alright set at Rogan's club cause alot of heavy hitters came out that night so he had to atleast try. At the secret show, he was "trying out new material", not getting any laughs and then got defensive and acted inconvenienced to have to be there. That he's above that now. Like we should be honored to get such a mid set from an "established" comedian. He had some tough sets to follow and when he wasn't getting the response he felt he deserved, he proceeded to bring down the mood. He gave up trying pretty quickly, trashed the crowd, told us to go f*ck ourselves before cope bragging that he didn't need to be there cause he's booked the rest of the year. Seems like KT and that whole circle jerk isn't doing him any favors by stroking his ego and giving him spots. Dude needs to be humbled.
