So, at the end, I had a few ideas of where Neru would be when she picked up the video call. One was that she would be at home bedrotting:

And this one was probably the best 'punchline.' Another was that she would be at work, as a bartender at the bar across the street from the venue:

(If you're thinking the fit here is a little inspired by VA-11 Hall-A, you're absolutely right.)

But there's a reason why I chose that she would be attending the concert -- let me explain. In a series like this, the two rules I have for every comic is that they must 1) add an interesting amount of information to the story 2) be funny or cute, preferably in a standalone way but not strictly necessary. These two rules are good for keeping readers invested in the story AND bringing new readers into the story.

Basically, in both cases, I would need to make a comic just to get Neru TO the venue, and I could not find a way to make that comic interesting.

The entire crowd waiting for her to take a bus and show up in sweatpants is kinda funny, but it doesn't add a whole lot of information.

Same with her running out on her shift at work. So there was my solution -- just put her at the venue already! Simplest possible solution, and it leads nicely into the next comic, which I hope you'll like.

LORE

In this version of the world, Miku, Teto, and Neru started all together in an idol group.

Neru had to drop out of the group due to life circumstances, while Teto and Miku continue the group as a duo, and then went on to have solo careers.

Teto got burned out while in the group and took a long break from singing after the split, whereas Miku carried in with a supernatural tenacity, and just a tinge of loneliness in her eyes, rarely seen outside of her idol attire. Her identify outside of being an idol became as hazy to herself as it was to those around her.

At this time in the story, we are at Miku and Teto's collab/reunion concert. Teto has gotten back on her feet and gathered a cult following by singing candidly about her insecurities and doubts. Miku continues to be the platonic ideal of the idol. Neru works as a bartender ... but will she be a bar dropper?
