When I started dated as an adult, and I thought I found something good, I didn’t even know how to be myself. I only knew the game of survival and the lies required to do so. So in order to hold on to my partner at the time, I wasn’t living, or experiencing, I was over here playing chess with our lives. A freaking board game. Not reality. So I can understand why she was operating in multiple areas, and lying to hold onto something because you fear any misstep in reality will lose you the one good thing in your life. So you play chess, and you think that is life, because that’s the only life you’ve known. You have to learn that life isn’t a game you can morally calculate. And it’s about riding the waves of life, and enjoying the experiences within that. And a partner is not something you control, but something you feel.
