When I started this franchise, the only thing I knew was that it was sci-fi, so I assumed it was like Star Trek or The Expanse. It was something very different though!
The characters on this crew were all so fantastic to watch, and this movie really did a great job at answering a lot of questions! It's always sad to see some of our favourite characters die, but at the same time, it always feels weird if none do. It would be so amazing if it had been renewed for more seasons after this movie came out 😭

I am sad though that I'm done with this franchise, but I know there are a lot more to watch.

2024-06-23 20:33:16 +0000 UTCI’m very late replying so you may have already done your research on this, but yes it is a little confusing. The important thing to note is that the Serenity comics were the earliest ones to come out, and of all the books, they’re the ones that have the most involvement from the original creators of the show, and so they fit most neatly into the official series canon. There’s also an unproduced script from the tv series floating around the internet, if you’re still hurting for more Firefly. It was originally intended to be one of the earlier episodes, but it was scrapped, with some elements of it being reused later in The Message. Worth a read if you’re curious, but it’s clearly not up to par with most of the episodes that were produced.

At some point, we thought River WAS Serenity 🤣 I do love how this movie showed so many different types of humans/governments, where they wanted to crate a perfect, pacifist society (so they had good intentions), then drugged people for it (uh oh), which resulted in them getting so many people killed

2024-03-20 22:29:34 +0000 UTCI really love this movie. Wish it could have been more successful so the series could continue as a film franchise, but still grateful we at least got this. And the comics like you mentioned. Fair warning tho, the Firefly comics are… divisive, to say the least. But while there aren’t as many of them, the Serenity comics published by Dark Horse are definitely worth reading, especially if you want to know more about Shepherd Book’s backstory or what happened to the crew after the movie. There’s also a series of Firefly novels that are still ongoing, all taking place some time during the run of the series or before the movie. I do think it’s a shame that so few of the comics (and none of the novels) attempt to continue the story after Serenity, but it’s still nice that this world and these characters get to live on in some way. I do kind of hope we get a new series or film in this universe some day, even if it would most likely be centred around new characters, and without Joss Whedon. I just think there’s a lot more stories to tell in this world.

And that is where things like community and communication and common ground happen, and that is why we're Browncoats. And you are one too now. By the way, my favorite character is Serenity. (I firmly believe that she is a character, since she has an introduction scene in "Out Of Gas", and I will die on that hill protecting that belief.)

That never happens. The fans and Nathan Fillion personally and Joss Whedon of course, are probably the only reason it even happened. It's so awesome to be able to put some closure on Firefly after such an amazing but unfinished first season. To give it a little bit of finality.... Now to wait a few months and marathon the whole thing again. 🤪

The season pretty well gave us a touch of just every type of theme possible and even flushed out the character back stories for the most part (except for book but I feel his was intentionally cryptic) rewatching is essential, so many little things to pick up in and now that you know the full story, all of Rivers seemingly nonsense ramblings, make perfect sense. This one's gonna hurt, probably too soon but when will it ever not be too soon? How to reavers clean their spears? They put them through the wash!
