Jackie Chan's First Strike (1996) * FULL LENGTH REACTION

This movie reaction is brought to you by one of our Producers!!

Another Jackie Chan flick, another blooper reel at the end!

These stunts were way more intense than in Rush Hour!  Playing in frozen water is never a good thing to do, it's one of the worst settings.  I certainly hope those scenes were done in 1 take, because I really wouldn't want him to have to do this for several days 😨

I absolutely loved the underwater fight!!  You don't see that often, but it was so well done.  The more I think about fight choreography and the angles that a director wants to show the sequence of events, the more admiration I get for everyone involved.

This movie was just so pleasing to look at 🤩

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the movie.  Also know there is an extension that allows you to do Picture-in-Picture in case you are interested: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/picture-in-picture-extens/hkgfoiooedgoejojocmhlaklaeopbecg?hl=en

It's difficult to know where to start with foreign films because you get into areas which are more niche and polarizing. Jackie Chan did a famous trilogy called Police Story which is very good, also a so-called 3-Dragons trilogy - Project A, Wheels on Meals and Dragons Forever - which he co-stars with other A-list action stars Yuen Biao & Sammo Hung, but which can be watched in any order All of them have amazing practical stunts and physical comedy

Arthur, King of the Britons

I definitely want to see more Jackie Chan. I don't know much about Hong Kong movies, but I'm always game to give something new a try!

Verowak

Jackie Chan's 80s movies were the best, That was a peak decade for Hong Kong action generally

Arthur, King of the Britons

I've heard he's had quite a few near death experiences 😨

Verowak

I'm so glad Jackie Chan turned Everything Everywhere All At Once down. I haven't seen him do serious movies though so maybe I'm unfairly assuming that it wouldn't have been as poignant

Verowak

Ahh that's great to hear!! I'm glad he did break into the american market.

Verowak

Also when it comes to Jackie Chan movies. Its always Dubs over subs. I think this was only like the second movie where Jackie Dubs over his own voice.

Ashley

There are some films where Jackie got pretty seriously hurt. but I wont say which ones and spoil it for you cause the bloopers usually show them.

Ashley

Oh yeah this is a good one. Also, Supercop and Supercop 2(both part of the Police Story series) are great because Jackie teams up with Michelle Yeoh. She is finally getting recognition because of Everything Everywhere All At Once. Which was originally offered to Jackie but he turned it down.

Ashley

If I remember correctly, I believe this is one of Jackie Chan's first Hong Kong films which helped break him into the American market, kind of paving the way for him to be cast in Rush Hour and the other late 90's and early 2000's American movies which many Americans associate him with.

Matt Peralta

Seeing him handle the ladder so well was impressive since I definitely would NOT be able to do that with my ladder 🤣

Verowak

I don't know why they don't have "Police Story" or anything on the poster. It just seems like a one off movie lol Using anything and everything as a weapon is so creative and fun to watch. I'm not sure how many actors/characters do this sort of thing

100%

I sense a Jackie Chan poll at some point soon :D

Vero, I'm so excited to see your reaction! This is indeed one of my favorite Jackie Chan movies. As you say, the stunts are incredible, and I remember how blown away I was the first time I saw the ladder fight! 😲

Phil Stubblefield

TIL this is the fourth movie in his police series haha! I've only ever known it as a stand-alone movie which I agree it does pretty well as. It definitely didn't feel like we were missing any important backstory. Everything to do with the choreography was incredible and I loved how creative it was with interacting with the environment. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Biggsy

'Rumble in the Bronx' and 'Jackie Chan's: Who Am I?' should now be on your radar!
