They are the "fathers" of alchemy and here they are fighting if you look closely during those dragons that they sent at one another father's dragons looked more like westernized dragons while hoienheim's dragons are more oriental to show how different they are as in western mythology dragons tend to be symbols of chaos, greed, evil, and destruction while in eastern mythology dragons tend to be symbols of power, wisdom, good fortune, and strength.
