think it's very interesting to see the difference in Araragi's reaction to the 2 times he sees proof that Hanekawa has been abused. When he finds out Hanekawa's father hit her, he has a very serious reaction, but not nearly as extreme as when he enters the house. When it comes to the physical abuse, it's only happened once (so far). You can still hope that it was a one-time thing in the heat of the moment, and that the issue can still be addressed and fixed. However, the utter neglect for Hanekawa as a person that is apparent in the house is clearly a conscious and continuous decision by her parents. Something that is completely alien (and terrifying) to Araragi, whose only reference point is his own loving family.
