2025-08-04 16:51:51 +0000 UTCScott Horton was recently on a show called India & Global Left and Horton and the host of the show Jyotishman discussed economics and ideology for the first 15 minutes before talking about geopolitics for the rest of the show. Jyotishman (who has a more Marxist anti-capitalist framework) tried to probe into Horton's belief system and gently locate areas where they agreed and disagreed on economic matters. Scott Horton was just completely hostile and did not like having his abstract and idealized beliefs about capitalism challenged at all (especially by a Marxist dude from India who spoke English as a second language). Horton is just so full of hate and contempt for anyone that harbors anti-capitalist and Marxist notions and is so convinced of the innate superiority of his own thoughts and beliefs on these matters. Horton's understanding of the history of the USSR, China post-1949 and every other socialist project in history and the present is undistinguishable from that of a Nazi or at least those Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation types in Washington DC. It's basically, "Socialism is when 400 million people die" and that's all Horton knows or wants to know about the subject. (I've heard Horton say that Mao Zedong was the most violent human being who ever lived, and he was as bad or worse than Hitler and Stalin combined. He said this on Jimmy Dore's show and of course Jimmy mindlessly nodded in approval.) Horton is extremely knowledgeable and knows factoids galore about US foreign policy but he's so repugnant and arrogant and reactionary in every other way, I can't even listen to him (even on foreign policy stuff). He's not worth your time to debate.
