2025-03-05 23:01:29 +0000 UTCOn the de Gaulle/68 thing, de Gaulle relied on a senior French General (Massu) to stop the whole thing from getting out of control. Massu's price was the release of the imprisoned OAS leaders who had tried to maintain French control over Algeria. It's possible that the events of '68 could have been engineered for that purpose by the French military establishment but I wouldn't be surprised if they had a bit of help.

Still makes no sense in statecraft. Still is just narrative control. Germany calls the money shots in Europe in simple power politics terms and everybody in Europe but ze Germans know that. But anything that isn't "open society" global euro dollar narrative about liberal wet dreams is tabu due to undigested "history lessons"
