Oligarchicide? Plus: McJihad in Syria (DCC63 - Audio)

Aaron and Bryce discuss various, insane, history-making events we’ve seen in recent days, including the assassination of a health insurance executive (capo?) as well as Biden’s pardon of Hunter, new Russian super missiles, and the West’s new McJihad offensive in Syria--now spearheaded by Erdogan’s Turkey!

Check out:

I spoke to Larry today. It'll be on the next DCC. He did say to me that he thought that Iran may make a deal with Trump. But when I mentioned the nuke possibility, he said that they may pursue two tracks---rapprochement (as you say) plus reassessing the nuclear question. I thin that he is basically trying to predict what will happen. It's not like his predictions of the Iranian state's behavior are impactful one way or the other. I believe that he just wants to be correct in his analysis/predictions. fwiw, I think Iran is more likely to be forced to create a nuclear deterrent.

I also listened to Larry Wilkerson's take and it seems really off He thinks Iran is going to sign a nuclear deal with the US again and that will buy it actual peace and sanctions relief. He thinks Hezbollah is dead. He also waived between thinking that Syria could be put together as some kind of Lebanon and a Libya. Wilkerson also believes apparently everything accused about the jails of the Assad regime without reflecting that every prison in the region, including those ran by Americans, are at least as brutal. That most of the fairly small population of prisoners are actually headchoppers or otherwise seditious towards the state. And that many of the stories coming out now are obviously fake and intended to manufacturer consent for the obviously illegal actions of HTS and Israel. To me none of these make much sense though I suppose given the weird and apparently overly determined collapse of Syria, maybe there are workings behind the scene that make no sense. But Iran picking a nuclear deal over getting it's own nukes seem suicidal. They know they're at existential danger from Israel and nukes are the only protection. They also know from Libya and now Syria that Americans/Turkey/GCC not only don't keep their promises but will always be actively plotting your downfall while pretending to be your friend. Iranians were also very desperate to send in troops and support to prevent the fall of Syria, suggesting there was plenty of will to continue with AoR. So I don't think the new president or the religious leadership will do this. Ideally they can skip the development phase and just get Russians to station nukes on their soil to make a point, which may get around their fatwa against nukes and partially alleviate concerns of Egypt, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia on nukes. For Hezbollah, I believe they have sufficient supply for enough to destroy Israel's critical infrastructure several times over. They also have small arms and IEDs to target Israelis more briefly, once it's clear that the fight is existential. They must have had plans to deal with getting supply route cut off. The arms from Iran was always quite low in quantity and could likely switch to just key parts like with the Houthis. I do agree that it's unlikely that they can or want to fight for Palestinians again. On having a sufficiently functional Syria to do America's bidding in the region, I have to wonder where he gets the optimism given America's history. I predict it won't go so poorly or for as long as Libya - the headchoppers and Israelis are a minority in the local population and the other resistance groups are very well organized. The current display of brutality by both will make them very unpopular. I think the situation will be more like Iraq but in a faster time table. The spreading of tales against Assad just reminds me who Wilkerson still is and is aligned to. Just like whenever John Kiriakou breaks off to talk about how awesome UAE or Qatar is, and I remember that once CIA, always CIA.
