Aaron speaks with Charles Derber and Yale Magrass, authors of the new book, Who Owns Democracy?: The Real Deep State and the Struggle Over Class and Caste in America.

Charles Derber is Professor of Sociology at Boston College. He has written 26 books on politics, democracy, fascism, corporations, capitalism, climate change, war, the culture wars, and social change. Yale Magrass is a Chancellor Professor of Sociology at University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth. He is the author/co-author of nine books and 80 articles. His work explores how militaristic capitalism distorts everyday life as it promotes inequality, bullying, environmental devastation, and war.

fwiw, they are closer to this than it might seem from this interview.

They're not really radlibs, thankfully. They're old guard/New Left academics. They are smart, sincere guys who do have a less critical pov, relative to mine. But They're nice guys and they didn't bristle when i disagreed with them and such. Hearing from the best critics of imperial capitalism (like, uh, AE, obviously) can make you lose sight of how bad the mainstream is. These two are definitely not that, their blind spots not withstanding.

It appears that they have a hard time coming to grips with the fact that the Democratic Party is a part of and a tool of the criminal oligarchy that runs the American empire. As long as the libs don’t see the Dems for what they are they will continue to make the same mistakes.
