The Milize’s are essentially old Republic nobility, between the social status and Vaclav’s position as one of, if not the most senior members of the army Lena has a lot of politics involved protecting her “misguided” notions.

2024-04-10 09:42:44 +0000 UTCThe anime doesn’t say that outright but close to it at least twice. Once in this ep and then later on. The anime from what I hear cut down on exposition or made narration for world building be done differently.

2024-04-10 04:57:43 +0000 UTCOne background note about San Magnolia that is not mentioned in the anime: The Republic initially prided itself on being a nation of diverse cultures opening to all races and ethnicities before the war. As they implemented the open immigration policies, many ethnic groups settled within The Republic. These minorities would later become known as the Colorata collectively while the Republic's population remained majority Alba. Although they presented themselves as a country of equal rights, the social structure remained the same as before the revolution. Colorata was at the bottom of the social structure though this discrimination mostly happened in subtle ways.
