Thats what I thought. And one of the reasons he wanted statues of them everywhere so that Frieren wouldn't forget their faces

He was in love with her and showered her with romantic gestures and meaningful keepsakes but never really explained his feelings to her. Perhaps he was hesitant to potentially leave Frieren with the tragedy he saw in Voll?
