Interesting point you make about how Thorfinn should remember how his father fought to decide his own path. But I would also like to remind you something about Thors. He didn't consider himself a true warrior when he died. He said "I must rely on a sword like this because I'm not yet a master. A true warrior doesn't need a sword." The exact meaning of that sentence is open to interpretation of course.
