I can understand that. I think Frieren's lack of emotion and empathy makes her very similar to the demons but she does have the capacity to understand unlike the demons. I think this shows when she's relieved of people's reactions about the headless soldiers of Aura and how she dealt with them. I take it as the moment she understands the emotional significance when she looks back at those memories of Himmel because she was in the position of the person or situation she's dealing with now. She'll definitely never be like Himmel caring or acting as much as he did for others but she'll contribute her part like Heiter did with Fern. As for the focus on Himmel, while in part its because he's the most influential person in the party, I also think its to show her slowly understanding the romantic feelings Himmel had for her. As for what she actually retains, maybe we'll see it more naturally shown off in her interactions with Fern and the others.

my 'complaint' because its more a minor gripe i guess is just that the first 10 or so episodes had a pretty equal spacing of frieren having learned lessons from the whole party, but then it seems to focus more on himmel almost exclusively and comes off more like frieren is just copying whatever himmel did rather then actually learning a lesson. in a way its more like the demons of this world. like when lugner looked around that room and made up the story about keeping his fathers room clean. its like that with frieren.

@Arakis I don't comment a lot on patreon haha. It was meant for Daniel Borrego.

I know what you are talking about and you are right. Cannot wait for it be animated.

Being both fully caught up with the anime and all of the manga I'd say his face in this episode when contrasted with the original is my only genuine issue with the show. It's so striking in the manga because it's a break from his usual stoicism and warm smile to a look of genuine defeat and despair from a man that realizes his love will stay unrequited till the day he dies. It's not revealed until much later and I won't spoil anyone but the chronological events that take place right before he buys her the ring makes his realization and reaction even worse.

I think you replied to the wrong person, bc I never talked about any of that. "Himmel knew/didn't know X" has nothing to do with understanding others and has nothing to do with her character. It's a statement of fact. Himmel showed too much interest in flowers so it was more than likely he knew about flowers. It's a judgement of fact.

The point is that himmel and the others were the ones that influenced her most and taught her all the lessons in understanding others. The time before was spent in solitude and even the adventures after that weren't special because she did them alone. 50 years wandering alone is nothing to her. Without companions, Frieren can't develop her empathy or interests in others. She needs 100 times the time investment to develop a connection which improves as she spends time with Fern. There was Flamme in the past acting like a teacher/parent before and now Fern influencing her in the present like a daughter. A fleeting moment with regular folks won't have any impact on her when she's alone because of her sense of time, lifespan and personality. It's not like she doesn't remember some people she's encountered but they had very little impact on her life. We can see now she's a lot more expressive. You can't look at it in the perspective of a human. But perhaps we'll see some different folk influence her in the future. I'm not seeing how you're getting that vibe.

interesting. ive noticed that whenever himmels involved with something, its always done in a dramatic movie way. i guess you could chalk this up to frierens memories of him being idealized. more probably they director just wanted to emphasize the 'feeling' of it that frieren gets from those moments to the audience. one thing i've been getting a bit put off by is it seems almost every episode now has a 'oh ya himmel' moment. i get that its part of the story of frieren realising the importance of her 10 year journey with himmel and friends, but she also travelled by herself through the human world for 50 years after that. can we not just get an few episode where we get a flashback of just regular folks she met along the way too. im seriously starting to get a wierd creepy stalker vibe from frieren .

Himmel: I like flowers. I like your flower bed spell. Here, let me tell you about the special flower of my hometown. Frieren (90 years later) : It's not like Himmel would know the language of flowers. By the way, they changed Himmel's reaction in the anime. I think it's worth it to see what the author and artist originally published: https://cm.blazefast.co/78/7d/787d157d3f1d365b47f0c787e0e9144a.jpg

I think they were wondering is if she didn't carry it during her first adventure and only started carrying lots of memorabilia afterwards. But yeah, she had it even before.

Hollow

Frieren has been carrying around a briefcase the entire show lmfao
