Since the magic works by imagination I think the levitation spell doesn't work in the blizzard simply because it's hard to imagine someone levitating in a blizzard and not getting blown away.

The quality of their reactions is because they take their time

I would say the thing that stands out the most this episode is how frieren isnt like that because shes an elf, itd because she was tramatized, trained and lived in isolation for like 800-900 years. So of course shes going to be emotionally stunted.

Unrelated question, anyone here knows when they're posting The Apothecary Diaries?

I really want to thank you guys for your amazing in-depth discussions after each of the episodes. The discussions about the artistic choices and themes, as well as how you guys can relate it to your own lives is genuinely great! I'm so glad I found your channel!

Evan did a great job with Violet Evergarden's soundtrack, but he might have surpassed himself here.

Highly recommend rewatching this when its finished. Theres soooo many small details you wouldnt notice at first

You can actually see Frieren teaching Fern to suppress her mana in the little time passing / training montage when they first met.

I love how positive this story treats the church/religion and the priests themselves. In lots of anime the Church/Priests are usually villains, evil, cultish, etc. and in modern western media religion is almost always either ignored or shown in a negative light.

Thanks for the episode

My favorite thing about this episode is the one-on-one conversation between Frieren and Kraft. Specifically two things. Firstly, as a religious person, the ready generosity in his kindness and consolation to Frieren. "I'll praise you [since if you don't believe]," and "you will see him again." Second, the framing and positioning: it starts with them facing each other (oppositional, interrogatory) and furthest apart as she's contesting with his beliefs and as the scene continues the camera rotates and she turns until they're overlapping and she's turned 90 degrees to him (not opposing but not the same direction) as she says "[Heiter] is in Heaven now." It's a really nice use of all those elements to show her outlook shifting

Daniel

It always stick out to me when Kraft calls Frieren young. Physically she's more or less a teenager, while Kraft is a grown man, possibly in his late 20's early 30's. Boggles the mind to think about how long he's lived and what he's done and seen.

Random comments: 1. Score is all Evan Call, who is great, and the whole Frieren OST recently dropped 2. Äußerst is roughly pronounced "awe-sir-st" - it's an S sound https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%9F 3. The conversation with Frieren and Kraft was super hard hitting for me. The whole idea that all his great deeds have been forgotten by the ENTIRE WORLD is something that will also happen to Frieren. AND HIMMEL. Even their great triumphs will one day be forgotten

Zaddy Kraft same seiyuu (Takehito Koyasu) as Dio / Zeke / Toji Fushiguro

Hi guys! This is a raw export of the Reaction for this episode. There is no color editing, and it is being hosted on Patreon. We wanted to get it out ASAP tho! This is due to copyright issues but we will swap this out shortly for the correct version!
