Aaron and Bryce speak with Patrick Lawrence. A commentator, author, essayist, and lecturer, Patrick Lawrence has served as a correspondent and subsequently a columnist overseas for more than twenty years, chiefly for the International Herald Tribune and The New Yorker. He has won two Overseas Press Club Awards as well as other honors and prizes. His work has appeared in a wide variety of publications, including The Nation, The New York Times, Business Week, TIME, Salon, and CounterPunch. Lawrence currently writes at The Floutist on Substack and these columns are often carried by Consortium News and ScheerPost.

2023-12-29 00:32:25 +0000 UTCThe reason this deep state regime was willfully created was to manage a global empire. The political economy of the whole thing changes if hegemony collapses. They risk much and gain little by trying to go for an overtly fascist domestic order with increasingly less wealth and power due to the collapse of the free ride that empire has provided. So what will they do? What type of counter-forces may compel them to move toward openness and democracy? Idk, but the US and the world can't remain in the current state indefinitely.

2023-12-28 16:50:47 +0000 UTCI feel like there’s a conflation between the empire ending and the power elite’s hold on, well, power, in the US ending at the same time - if britian is any indication, the ability to impact foreign affairs of other nations will wane, but the brutal hold on the domestic scene will continue far on after the empire dissolves
