2024-01-03 23:46:28 +0000 UTCBoth of the Kennedy assassination coverups seem to include the potential to be interpreted publicly in ways that would have ramped up international tensions (LHO being a Soviet/Cuban agent, Sirhan Sirhan a Palestinian). I know that Lyndon Johnson made efforts to avoid that version of what happened (because of legitimate concern that it would spark nuclear war? Because it was so over-corroborated by phony stories that it was too obviously fake and would point to a CIA plot?) and it seems a bit strange that the CIA would employ this strategy twice, if the first attempt was a failure (if it truly was an attempt to blame the communists). Do you think they tried to bake-in these possible explanations just in case they decide it would be politically expedient, say if they wanted to ramp up tensions with the Arab countries after the RFK assassination? Or is it always “Plan-A”? Or - third option - is it a way of pressuring public figures like Johnson to champion a simple “lone nut” theory to avoid the possible catastrophe of the public believing the assassinations to be international conspiracies?
