I wonder if Ford's humiliation regarding his peace efforts in WWI drove him against the British and into the Nazi camp during WWII. He seems to have been scapegoated alone among our American industrialists who largely escaped with reputations intact despite their creation of the Hitler regime and their continuing support for it throughout the war.

Carnegie wrote and published an essay called the Imperial Federation advocating moving the locus of the British Empire to the United Stated, chapter 12 in 'Gospel of Wealth.' The Carnegie Endowment for Peace never saw a world war that it did not manufacture alongside the British.
