Episode 83: Allen Dulles' Long Game in Indonesia w/Greg Poulgrain

Aaron talks to the tireless and iconoclastic historian of post-colonial Indonesia, Greg Polugrain. In this first of two episodes, they discuss Allen Dulles' dark influence over US policy in Indonesia up through the Eisenhower administration.

Greg Poulgrain teaches history at the University of the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia. He is the author of The Genesis of Konfrontasi: Malaysia, Brunei and Indonesia, 1945-65, The Incubus of Intervention: Conflicting Indonesia Strategies of John F. Kennedy and Allen Dulles, as well as the more recent JFK vs. Allen Dulles: Battleground Indonesia.

might be a typo: "lrast", curious what you meant... "at least" prob. I don't get the sense that he sought to fit into a new deal platform. He seems to me a crafty, individualistic grey area type. I presume FDR brought him in to have Morgenthau scan his activity.

Not that I know of. It would be interesting to know about. Of course Joe Sr. would have known Wallace from his time in FDR's administration...

Aaron Good

Intrigued by the suggestion that JFK wanted to pick up the mantle of Henry Wallace. Has any work been done detailing JFK's familiarity with Wallace?

Luke

frank bischoff

Aaron Good

What was the name of the police officer who arrested Michael Fomenko?

Himbo Slice

Loved Poulgrain and Good interview!

John McElroy

Should be fixed now!

Aaron Good

Audio silence near the end where your solo wrap-up usually is, before the outro music. Good to hear from Poulgrain!
