Ok I subbed to you guys here after watching your Deceivers reaction & discussion because I knew this episode would be earth shattering. I’ll probably stay subbed through you guys catching up on AOT but I love your content and discussions for Chainsaw and Mob too!

Floch isn’t the only one… in season 1: Historia, Ymir, Berthold and Reiner were all side characters. (Ymir wasn’t even a named character until season 2!)

if you cant see the overwhlemingly obvious similarities between gabi and eren then you have not been paying attention, when hundreds of reactors say the same thing its clear that its true but youre the only one who doesnt see it that way

yeah that beast titan confusion was the only part they messed up on

there is another reactor called omario who says that background characters are called "Greg and Larry's" and that Floch is the only one who was able to break out of that group in this show

I don't necessarily mean that they are the same, but there is definitely a parallel between them precisely in their reaction to the loss of loved ones blinded by anger and driven by revenge, at least at first, maybe I expressed myself crookedly in the first comment, well, I think they are similar in this, but I also agree with your words about them

Eren is the opposite to Gabi, how can people say they are the same. Eren was always going against the flow, searching his own truth, while Gabi was going with the flow, all what the gov have said she agreed with.

I think many people tend to overlook children of the forest. It has almost no action, but it has explosive character drama that connects a bunch of the subplots and articulates the core message of the show in an emotional and tense episode. Easily in the top 3 episodes of the show.

I also agree with the comment above that Gabi's reaction to Zofia and Udo was similar to Eren's reaction to the death of his mother, in fact Gabi is like a mini Eren blinded by brightness, but Gabi adds to this propaganda in which the poor child believed all her life. + Armin, who compares Gabi and Eren (kill this, kill that)

It's so sad that even though Kaya said in the episode before that she wants to be like Sasha and now we see how she continues this cycle of hatred (of course it's not her fault) and that we are still in the forest. Also, I'm not sure that Zeke's ability to turn people into titans is related to the titan monkey, but with his royal blood, when the military Marley talked about Zeke, they said that it looks like he has something special in his blood

In AoT: You either die a side character, or you live long enough to become a main character.

thank you both for understanding floch because soooooo many people just lindly hate him because he was a random guy who started trying to have an opinion and said mean words to Armin. Most people are snowflakes

Also, those categories of people you thought of, Ana? Amazing and spot on once again for some of the metacommentary Isayama was laying into the subtext of this story.
I cannot wait for them to get into and experience the other philosophical and existential concepts AOT throws at them in the next episodes lol.
Just an incredible that a show like this ends up as a great examination of the human condition.

Your analysis on Floch is spot on, Ben. Spot on. I don't think I've heard any other reactors articulate that truth about his character so clearly.

good luck with the notes, i suggest take note of fewer words that supposed to remind the line or moment you wanted to talk about.. so it wont take long to write it. anyway your review is great, so inteligent and emotional :)

This is one of my favorite episodes, because it encapsulates the main moral dilemma of the show regarding the cycle of hate and violence.

Gabi's initial reaction was not necessarily anger. It was pure anguish when she saw Zofia crushed and Udo being trampled. But right after that she swore vengeance on Eren. This is very very similar to how Eren was when his mom was eaten. They are both perpetuating the cycle. Very interesting to think of, considering Ana mentioned this is why Gabi infuriates her. Clearly this was not Ben and Anas reaction when Carla was eaten. It just goes to show that we cannot really see Gabi's situation in an unbiased way, since this time around... we actually know the context of it all.
