The Final Word with Mark Steel

If you don't know who Mark Steel is, then you should. A lot of our listeners who didn't know who Mark Steel was have agreed. On Season 13, Ep 3 we hung out with the knowledgeable and garrulous historian / comedian / chat-merchant and cricket enthusiast. He has delved into the history of the game before, as we do every week, and he still turns up to play and watch on a regular basis, between making the many radio and television programs that fill his life. Time for us to sit back with a rum and let him roam free. Plus a historian's own Nerd Pledge.

We filmed this interview, so the full video is above. Or here's the audio episode.

Your Nerd Pledge number this week:
22.77 – Max Bryant.

That was our second weekly episode for last week. Does that make sense? We don't know anymore. TFW just keeps spawning like a wet Mogwai. The other weekly episode was the modern mystery:

Justin Langer vanishes

Season 13, Ep 2: There's a documentary sequel coming about the Australian men's team, but strangely this time Justin Langer is not positioned as the main character. Also, our listener Bryan R. Caine was the United States umpire officiating as Rakheem Cornwall bashed a double century in a T20 match this week. Bryan joins the show to tell the story. Cricket makes its pitch for the Olympics, the Maxwell Sheffield Shield is in full swing, and Jos Buttler opts for diplomacy. Should captains have to appeal for a dismissal? Do they have a responsibility to do so?

Your Nerd Pledge number this week (?):
5.91 – Chris Arkle.

Here's the audio.

And here's Bryan Caine with his umpiring mentor Steve Bucknor.
