Ben: "You can't cover Aaron's book in 20 hours". (looks at my audiobook - 12 hours, 48 minutes) 🤣🤣

Jim Hougan! Hooray!! How about a discussion about OCCUPY? My take on a movement I was seriously involved in, yet very disheartened by, is that it was possibly a mini-Color Revolution right here. Remember the summer before, the summer of 2011? There was widespread and growing calls for a challenge to Obama, full page ads in the NYT. People mentioned were Bernie, Russ Feingold, Kucinich, Jerry Brown(!), a return by John Edwards(!!). (BTW, Edwards is yet another example of a political hit, however deserved or not.) Then. . . Occupy -- which would turn out to be a big distraction and nothing more substantial than a slogan -- appears out of the mists and all politically-active leftists turn toward it. By December, when it's too late to file in any blue primaries, Occupy pretty much disappears back into the mists. And that's not even mentioning the insane "lack of rules," "lack of hierarchy," etc which would turn each meeting into a Marx Brothers movie.

From the CIA propaganda in Marvel's "Black Panther" to OnlyFans - what an episode! 😂 It was fun chatting

Ben Norton

I keep thinking about Ben’s color revolution point and man, that is so dang spot on.

Nic Bodiford

That’s my new favorite theory on the matter

Given the obscurity of those things c. 2019, if the plane part and the lady guards were any kind of reference to Lockerbie and Ghaddafi, it would be less for propaganda purposes and more of an Easter Egg for other spooks. And I actually wouldn't rule that out with these sickos, but who knows?

Aaron Good

I hear you. You’re probably right. If you’ll allow me though; as you and Ben discussed, the purpose of the movie was to redirect attention away from imperialism and neoliberal capitalism while also rewriting what it meant to be a Black Panther. Bringing in aspects of a Pan-African global figure by keeping the badass all-female guard part of the story and subtly invoking the idea that Gaddafi and Co. really did down the plane seems plausible to me. I appreciate the engagement! Thanks so much, Aaron.

Nic Bodiford

No clue, but Ghaddafi had picked up the banner of Pan-Africanism and tried to liberate the continent from neocolonialism--while also trying to stay in the good graces of the empire. He was not successful in the end.

Aaron Good

Re: Black Panther/the downing of a plane/all female guard. Did they put that in there as a general Gaddafi reference? I don’t recall the whole Gaddafi saga but that rang a bell

Nic Bodiford

Congratulations on your book and I just bought the EPUB version on Apple Books! Keep up the good work!

Angleton

Wonderful, thank you!

Aaron Good

Congrats on the book, Aaron. I'm about 2 hours into the audiobook and am really enjoying it so far! Keep up the good work
