Finally (mostly) finished this shot from Hikari's Dilemma (Newgrounds / Vimeo / Youtube)! I'm not as happy with the results as I've been with some of the previous shouts, but it's pretty close. I'll probably end up doing another pass at this before the animation is done. For for now, I'm content to move on.
I did a good deal of redrawing on this shot, as the frame from the original comic was pretty off model. You can see the details on that over on this post!
When animating this one, I did a bit of a new technique on the lines, although it's not too visible in this non-HD gif preview. Essentially, I have a bit of fractal erosion on all of the lines. Any time a frame changes, I change the evolution of the fractal, making it seem as if the pencil stroke that created the line was slightly different, and not uniformly thick. It's pretty subtle, but it's one more tiny thing that helps sell the traditional animation look.
I'll probably go back and add this effect to the previous shots as well, when it's time to finish the animation.
