I enjoyed listening to how serious Burt Reynolds took his acting career, fast forward to his performance in Striptease. White Lightning also stars both Burt Reynolds and Ned Beatty, right after their filming Deliverance together (if my memory serves me right). It's a pretty legit movie and it even stars a young Diane Ladd. I would explain it as kind of a 70s Southern outlaw-exploitation movie as far as it's theme and style. It's entertaining enough to watch. But its sequel is that movie Gator, which is hokey by comparison.
