John here! Still up to Nick-Nacks in the book, which is coming along nicely and only a week and a bit until that deadline.
The other day on Twitter I said I would answer some questions on here, so here I am!
Pete Benson asks:
"Please tell me you’re covering Predator at some point in this series..... "
Yes Pete. I hope to. I have some exciting guests lined up for many classics, but it's a question of waiting for their schedules to be free, which can sometimes take a while. Its' definitely on the list, anyway.
Alastair Brown asks:
" What in your view is the best 80’s action film and what is your view on Bond 25 and how should it end for Craig. Are you happy that they seem to be tying up his story that started with Casino and Quantum then Spectre and Blofeld? "
I think Die Hard has to be the best 80s action movie. It zips along at a fair old pace, and has everything you could ever want. Craig's Bond should end like everyone else's did, with him looking too old and the film being ridiculous, thus forcing a frantic dash back to the drawing board. However I suspect it won't be as exciting as that.
WhoTrial asks:
" Why do no subsequent Bond films mention the two nuclear explosions at either end of the Atlantic in the Spy Who Loved Me? Where's our Chernobyl style series about the poor bastards who had to clean that lot up? "
This is all covered in Roger's general appearance in A View to a Kill.
" Which Blofeld was the most considerate lover? "
Savalas. Can you imagine the sweet nothings he will pour into the ears?
" Which Bond would be least likely to offer you the common decency of a reach around and why is it Brosnan? "
This is where we differ. I see it as being Tim, as there's no way he would relinquish control of his Welsh act.
Craig Wilson asks:
" Should there be a Taffin II, with an equally lacklustre Pierce Brosnan starring as an older version of the character? "
Without a shadow of a doubt. Taffin 2 could be about another equally as exciting land-grab scheme, but with Mark this time being called out of retirement when a milk float is pushed over.
Tom Collins asks:
" Are you ever tempted to lecture your guests on why their bond opinions are bollocks? "
Yes. Many, many times, but I hold my tongue as it's rude to tell people to "get fucked".
Dominic Johnson asks:
" What do you think they need to do to get Bond back on track? It's seems a bit stale an not as confident as it used to be to me. "
It needs someone to go back and watch an older film (Goldfinger or The Spy Who Loved Me) and remember that what people love about Bond is the impish feeling of mischief that's tucked into the DNA. It's got far too serious and focused on looking inwards, instead of watching small planes fly out of horseboxes.
AND THAT'S IT FOR JULY!
I will be back in August or September with some actual Patreon content, including an exclusive interview with someone who worked on many Bond films!
See you soon,
John
