Wii U Gamepad Clone - Development Vlog 2
Added 2024-05-30 04:16:06 +0000 UTCProgress has been made! You can officially play the Wii U gamepad on a Linux setup easier and better than ever before!
Of course, this is not the end goal of this project, and hopefully we'll be seeing this on phones very soon. However this already opens the door to the Raspberry Pi, Steam Deck, and Nintendo Switch (if modded and running Linux), which are all potentially very valuable. So far I've only tried the Pi, but if you have either of the other devices and want to give it a try, lemme know how it goes! I might try to get a hold of them too so I can experiment.

We’ve also been interested in this topic for a good while now, including manufacturing our own gamepad clones. You mentioned near the end not knowing why some Wi-Fi adapters work while others do not. 2024-05-30 06:43:17 +0000 UTCI think we'd probably want something with built-in graphics which might rule out an STM32, but I feel very good about the prospects of a Raspberry Pi Zero. I'll definitely be working to get it running smoother on mine (3 Model B).

2024-05-30 06:05:48 +0000 UTCThanks! In fairness, most of what I've implemented so far has been reversed and documented before, so for me it was just a matter of implementing. There is definitely some uncharted territory ahead though that will require some reverse engineering and trial and error. I need to look into this more, but there's a chance something like TrollStore could fakesign the necessary entitlements without requiring a full blown jailbreak. That's a bridge to cross when we get to it.

2024-05-30 05:31:13 +0000 UTCOne thing I'm especially interested in is just how low the hardware requirements can be for a gamepad client. It would be extremely cool if the project could run on a cheap STM32 or something, although I do see how that would be extremely unlikely. Wii U portabilising is a growing community, and the introduction of an alternative to DRC and having a gamepad is a game changer.

At first I thought it was a goofy idea more trouble than it’s worth but the proof of concept has won me over. Also the fact Nintendo just uses 802.11 is hilarious. My only real question I have is in the event you do make something for jailbroken iOS, there’s no way to sideload w/o jail breaking?
