Reburn3 wii u port? :D

I mentioned this in the comments of the YouTube video, but this could be incredible for the portabilising scene. Trimming of Wii U motherboards was just recently achieved, and we're seeing the first portables being developed. Replacing the need for an original gamepad could be a huge game changer, especially given the poor battery life the original gamepad. Additionally, making it an Android app would allow for a wide variety of devices to run it, including hacked Nintendo Switches. I'd love to see this project reach fruition, and I can't wait for the revolution this will bring to the Wii U scene.

if you need an extra hand for testing, feel free to reach out! Got plenty of time and some test devices

I believe WebUSB could be a potential target platform, though it still requires us to handle driver code (just in JavaScript instead of something else). But this might be worth doing if things end up being as portable as I think they will.

MattKC

inb4 you're running a linux VM in an android app to connect to the usb wifi. i'd also wonder if WebUSB would be a feasible route for this? works on android, and linux, and mac & windows

Great minds think alike :P

Plus you could use the touch controls to get bloopair installed to use any controller

Yeah sadly I haven't found much public info at all about Apple USB APIs, jailbroken or not. There is USBDriverKit, but that's only for macOS and newer iPads with M-series chips - might be worth supporting but probably doesn't help most people. We'll see how the MFi enrollment goes.

Shh no spoilers

There will probably be touch controls as a fallback, but I don't imagine it'll be the preferred way to play, it'll just be if you need the gamepad in a pinch If you have any bluetooth controller (e.g. PS4/PS5/Xbone/Switch Pro), you should be able to pair it with the phone no problem and get physical buttons

MattKC

For a Patreon exclusive, the extra effort into proper editing and subtitles is much appreciated. Especially the subtitles.

Would it be possible to support jailbroken iDevices? As I have a lot of old iPads that can easily be jailbroken and would be great use for something like this. But I’m not sure if a jailbroken iDevice has access to USB. (EDIT: Yeah this doesn't seem like it would be practical, hopefully Apple grants you permission to use MFi)

WalterMan

This will be amazing for android handhelds like the ayin odin, rp4pro and pocket S

Run a modified Linux kernel in a small VM, passing through the USB device to it? That way you can take advantage if all the WiFi drivers that exist in the kernel, and also can use the kernel modifications that already exist.

QwertyChouskie

Will you be putting controls onto the app or will we use our own controllers?
