EARLY ACCESS: The second half of "I ported thousands of apps to Windows 95"

This is where you learn the true depths of my insanity - in more ways than one.

Sorry this has taken so very long. I hoped I could get this part finished within one week, but it ended up taking just over three. There are still things I don't think are perfect, but I'm currently visiting family (on a trip planned several months ago before I knew what a behemoth this video would become) and am limited with how much I can do. I could keep delaying it further, but ultimately I think it's time to finish this video and start moving onto the next one.

Thanks everyone for your patience and support, hope you enjoy it!

Good detective work! You're probably right that it's NDP Helper and NDP is .NET Development Platform. Still not exactly clear what it does but at least that would explain the naming

MattKC

NDPHLPR - NDP Helper - .NET Development Platform Helper? NDP seems to be some sort of codename or component of .NET - I can find very little reference to NDP - but https://ftp.zx.net.nz/pub/Patches/ftp.microsoft.com/MISC/KB/en-us/308/358.HTM and https://www.microsoft.com/en-nz/download/details.aspx?id=8166 mention it, if barely

These videos always make me feel tingly down there

You make the good stuff.

More random cameos of you and f4mi on each other's channels! I really enjoyed this adventure. Signed up for Patreon just because I was craving more MattKC content and didn't know these were out here.

You sir are a hacker in the truest sense of the word. Bravo!

thran

This is true content, and your highest quality video yet! Awesome job!

I agree with that too, I remember feeling the game show wasn't quite working as well as I'd hoped - now I know what to look into before I put out the final video. Thanks!

MattKC

I appreciate the feedback, certainly the approach I took with this video won't be for everyone - especially if you're expecting a more technical deep dive - but I think it can still work with some tightening up (I definitely agree the game show segment is too drawn out and I can probably do a better job of making it all flow). If there's enough demand, perhaps I'll put together a second video about this project that goes into much more detail (perhaps just for Patreon)

FIRE!!!!

I was gripped to the last frame. Bravo Matt! The skits were very funny and kept the video light hearted.

*Standing ovation occurs* *People clapping everywhere* Bravo! well done. This was a great journey to follow through and it's been awesome to see.

I was not expecting CS188 to make a cameo, that made me burst out laughing

I don't think the Noir bit needs to be cut, but the volume on the voiceover needs to be fixed, or maybe the voiceover just needs to be redone.

Congrats on tackling one of the most complex problems you’ve ever shared with us! I really enjoyed the love and attention you gave to all of the comedic bits. I do agree with one comment that the game show bit may have been a touchhhh drawn out, but, honestly it was fine. Great work man!

AntVenom

Hard disagree on this one. If he cared enough to make that entire segment, a comment like this just feels unnecessarily dismissive of that entire effort, all because you want a video that’s going to ultimately be less appealing to a wider audience at the end of the day. If you don’t like the noir bits, nobody is forcing your hands away from the keyboard or screen to skip those bits. They were pretty entertaining on their own, and a fun tie in to an otherwise difficult to follow subject for those not technically experienced. What you’re asking for is a duller video. You do you, but I absolutely disagree with you.

AntVenom

I'm fine with the noir bits, but the "How many registry entries" game show bit definitely needs some trimming, it honestly feels like the joke drags on too long when could be half or even a quarter the length. Currently the whole segment is just over 2 minutes, it being 1 minute or so would feel a lot better IMHO.

So, feedback... I think the whole Noir b-roll escapade should be cut. Completely. It just screws up the pacing, don't *actually* tie into the science of what you're doing at all. Branching out and trying to new things is laudable, but in this particular case I think it was a miss. I would have preferred a much less bloated video that focused on the investigation and debugging itself, and deeper dives into windows calls and software. Not necessarily a *shorter* video, just a less *bloated* video.

Finale: Resolution (1024x768) had me horse laughing. This was incredibly well put together. Your message at the end is something that I think most of your supporters will agree with, I know it resonates with me at my very core. I've never backported a framework, but I have gone as far in the last few years to learn things that I couldn't have possibly have understood as kid using our 286 - like learning VB for DOS just so I could send discord messages from a crappy UI - but its really nice to hear someone else put into words what I have a hard time describing to anyone that asks "Why?" "Because I care" is beautiful in its succinctness. Great video!

I watched the entire thing as it dropped. It was an absolutely crazy journey; the skits sometimes felt like an actual movie. Enjoy your trip!
