REport: HAVE YOU SEEN THESE VIDEOS???

HeyJ, everyone! First, I apologize for the lack of updates since "Your Happy Ending" premiered. Second, I apologize for a long REport to make up for it... ^^;

And third, I apologize if anything we say in this comes off as a little "raw," "unfiltered," or "judgemental." Everyone has their own tastes and we don't mean to bash any audience member's preferences (or any creator's for that matter, either!) We're often frustrated with YouTube's attempts to conform us into a specific style of content (and marketing), which has real and risky ramifications on our income, but we don't mean to pick on anybody when we kick back. All of that said, if you'd like to weigh in on these channels or videos, but prefer to message us privately instead of commenting, that's totally fine. We still had fun making those eight Granny, Baldi, and Hello Neighbor videos, and it seems like a lot of people had fun watching them, too!

Beard Salute!

REport: HAVE YOU SEEN THESE VIDEOS???

Comments

To directly address the questions in the videos: Yeah, I've watched anything from just two of the channels shown on that first list, haven't heard of the rest, and I don't think I've seen any of the videos on the second. To add to your later discussion, I'm part of a few other channels where we sing our own lyrics to video game music, and I'm about 99% sure that if YouTube showed us a list like that and said "You should do this", we would spend days mocking it in our discord.

I also meant to say: I spent time with three kids under 10 recently (nieces + nephew). Of all your content, I only showed them the "Nintendo stuff" because they wouldn't *get* the indie horror stuff. I am *so relieved* that's not the kind of stuff they are into, but at the same time, it seriously cut back on the amount of your content that I could show them and retain interest.

THIS. As AJ was saying "You guys get older, youtube gets older" I immediately protested "No, we get older, and the average youtube audience gets YOUNGER". THAT'S the problem. Your Patreon community is obviously going to be the more mature audience, since they have to have an income source to be able to contribute on Patreon. The VAST majority of your subscribers aren't, ah, "dedicated" enough for that. Because they're too young. Which means interest in "these types" (*points to screen*) of videos. Side comment: I smiled at Gwen getting excited about extra shelves. It's a book-owner-excitement thing, even when the shelves aren't going to be intended for books.

I have never seen any of those videos, and, if I can be quite honest for a moment, I wouldn’t. On the topic of channels, JTMusic is one of my favorite music artists, and I listen to their songs a lot. CG5, I occasionally listen to. But I don’t really watch any of those other channels. To sum it up: YouTube is very weird

Personally, I only have heard of JT Music and CG5. I have never heard of the other channels, and none of those thumbnails are appealing to me 😬 I’m guessing YouTube took the viewers of your most popular musicals (Baldi, Granny, etc) and showed the videos they usually watch… which is weird but just keep doing what you’re doing! I honestly like when you do indie games because it introduces me to different games. For example, I started to play Papers Please after your musical Bc it looked like a cool concept! I guess as long as you have the easily recognizable indie titles in there, you can get away with releasing some like.. ‘Mario-themed’ musicals. Or things that the audience usually doesn’t watch as much.

ZakPak

I recognise CG5 and JT music. Other than that I’ve never watched any of those other creators and I’ve also never watched and probably wouldn’t click on any of those videos they’re recommending. Vastly prefer you guys and your videos to any of them:)

Rebecca Scowcroft

I recognized CG5 and JT Music but not the others…I don’t think I would click on any of those videos…unless I had to choose one from that selection. Also…The C+ Shanty is one of my favorite musicals!

I recognized CG5, JT Music, and Zanimation, I dont think I've heard of the other channels there. And I dont mean to be offensive to anyone but most of the videos look like they were made by or for 7-10 year olds, not something I would normally click on.

If they could do a video with Peter Hollens or Whitney Avalon, that would be amazing. Combining the Disney and video game parody audiences would be great.

I mean, you guys have collaborated with MatPat, and that's exactly what all his thumbnails look like. However, you do keep making videos on games that are popular with eight year olds, and that's the sort of things they click on.

Kevin Orfield

Devon's voice is always surprising to me when you do use him. Somehow it's never what I expect.

Kevin Orfield

Those aren't any channels or videos that I would associate you guys with nor do I watch. Out of the channels I do watch, I'd put you guys along side:Game Theorist Eile Monty Studio C Pattycake Productions The Stupendium Brian Hull Black Nerd Comedy Daria Cohen ERB Whitney Avalon Batinthesun Deathbattle Peter Hollins and JoCat

Devon Chenoweth

I only recognized CG5 and JT Music. You guys helped to introduce me to some really cool games through your musicals, such as Little Nightmares, Sally Face, and DDLC.

I've never seen any of those channels except for CG5 (also 3A Display and ZAMination because of that whole discussion we had about them.) I feel like I instantly gravitate towards that cuphead video out of all of the videos shown, but maybe I just think that it actually took hard work and effort to do (not to dismiss gaming channels, but sometimes I do wonder) I don't know any advice to offer you guys, but I'm sure you'll figure all of these things out, you always do. 💜

Rachel A

I don't know ANY of those channels really except for CG5... and I got those kinds of videos recommended to me A LOT whenever I watch a video from the channel. It just saddens me really that those are the kind of content that YouTube wants, but I know yall aren't giving up on doing what you love and do best, and I will always support you guys every step of the way. You got this!

scarletfeisty

I only recognized CG5 from the first list, but I’m guessing that’s the same for most everyone else here….

Personally, I've never watched any of those videos and I know next to none of the channels shown. It is also very surprising, and yet not, to see the channels that the fans are subbed to. It's a shock to see Mark not on there considering he has so many subscribers. However, he is also not a "family friendly" channel, same with Jack, so maybe that's why the algorithm didn't put RE with them. But keep being yourselves, guys! I will continue being a supporter no matter the content! You always do a great job and put a lot of heart into your projects. <3

Ashley Lauer

I’ll be honest, about 75% of the games you’ve made musicals on I’ve known nothing or almost nothing about the games. I’ve also never watched any of those videos or even heard of those youtubers(except for cg5).
