REport: Is This Animation Okay?

Cause we aren't so sure... >_< Sorry for the lack of updates this week, but as always, we appreciate both your support and your feedback. Let us know if we're crazy off-base here, but we think this needs a bit more work still. We're also putting together more of our Animal Crossing project for next month, though it's not quite ready to show off yet.

We'll let you guys know as we start narrowing down the options for a November musical, but as always, let us know if you'd like to suggest anything special and we'll be happy to consider it!

Beard Salute!

REport: Is This Animation Okay?

Comments

This is a great idea! As for the animation, I don't think I'm qualified to say anything, because I don't watch Minecraft Animations very much.

Cat and Books are Life

It was such a great idea! How disappointing that it didn't turn out the way you wanted. I *would* have a hard time watching this particular animation all the way through with all the issues. I would, however, definitely enjoy seeing other animated versions of my favorite songs if you found other people to commission or if they fixed this one.

I didn’t think the animation was too bad, except for the parts that are obvious glitches. That could be some technical problems that they cannot control? Maybe it’s an older computer, or animation program, or combination of both, where rendering the final video file brings forth a bunch of bugs. Can’t help but feel sad for them ☹️ Still, if it cannot be fixed, it cannot be helped.

Admittedly I am the wrong person to ask about Minecraft animation because I am not really a fan of it. I never really understood the hype of the game. Still though it is popular and I can see your decision to try it out. You all have been at this for awhile and I will trust your judgement in what makes the cut. However I am a total fan of animation going way back so I do think that your general idea to animate your previous releases is a fun idea. I loved what you guys did with Cuphead. That is a fun video. Also, good job getting that divider on sale! Being economical is sound management.

I thought the Minecraft animation looked... okay.. not amazing, not horrible.. but the lighting/shadows seemed meh, the lip sync seemed kinda off (in regards of both timing as well as actually matching the movement of the words actually said.) That's sad though because Tattletale is still my favorite musical that you guys have done. I think something that could be kind of cool for you guys to do is some kind of Medley. Whether it is a musical medley where you combine songs that you do (almost like the Rewinds, but with words and stuff), or having characters from musicals all in the same setting, and have the musicals all kinda come together (like what you did in Up on my Housetop with the Tattletale cameo, except more than just a cameo) I definitely agree that a lot of your legacy content (old musicals) should be brought into the spotlight (hence why your finish the lyric videos are so cool and fun to play along with. Or maybe have different characters from different musicals sing different songs (aka, Bonnie the Bunny singing Resident Enis, or Baldi and the Luigi's Mansion ghosts singing FNAF Night 1) or just something fun or different.

A small game suggestion for a musical, maybe contra probably not a good suggestion but it’s one none the less

Ok, so. I've never actually gone looking for Minecraft Animations. I assumed it would basically be captured game footage, like We Wish You a Merry Creeper, so this was a step up from that. As my expectations were low to begin with, I didn't notice as much of the glitching out as you guys pointed out... That being said, it definitely seems more like a fan's "passion project" that they would post on their own channel than something you as the original content creators would pay to outsource. RE isn't an animation channel. You guys are best at live action videos, and you learned from the Cuphead experience that the best route for you to do animated musicals is to pay others to do the animation for you. For reanimating older content in general... I see how it could get some of the subscriber fanbase (who haven't watched the entire library of RE musicals) introduced to older content - after watching a new animation of an old musical, they could be interested enough to watch the original as well (now that they know it exists). But if you're only really considering this for songs that were super popular to begin with, I don't think you'll end up with anywhere near as many views on the animated version to make it worth the cost/effort. Looking at Cuphead, for example - the "poorly animated" original has 15 million views. The RE-animated version that "everyone begged for" has only 3.3 million views. *Part* of that disparity comes from the time gap of the original being available for longer, but mostly, the results speak for themselves. Re-hashed content just doesn't bring in the money. There are also so many different styles of animation, it's impossible to please everyone. And to Ariel's point, that opens up a huge can of worms of people begging for this, that, and the other, leading to disappointment when it inevitably doesn't happen. Add in all the whiners who will assume that you're spending your own time on doing these animations instead of making new content... Overall, I recommend letting animations of older musicals continue to be fan projects, posted on their own channels, which you may or may not choose to highlight on your social media platforms. I could probably think of more to say, but it's 4 am as I'm finishing this, and I need to go to bed.

I do think animating old musicals is a good idea, I personally think you would be better off going with the way you had Watch Out animated or that Bendy animation you showed on patreon. Either way I'll watch whatever you guys end up posting regardless.

I mean props to the animator like you said that takes skill to do, but yeah I agree not a good enough quality to post on RE yet. Animation sounds ok but it may take people/ views away from your original musical videos or double requests for animations ideas. Personally I prefer real life stuff but I’d still like them. Hope this is helpful deciding what to do.

I would definitely not post that animation. That was..... not great. I'm already not a fan of the Minecraft animation and this was not good on top of that. As per reanimating old musicals, I'm not sure the price vs actual income would be worth it. I'm only a little excited for that prospect, but I feel like there will be a lot of "Why wasn't this reanimated when that was" and a mess of twice as many requests. That's just my opinion on it.
