I wasn't going to come back to this character's design so soon, but I felt very inspired and excited to keep going with it. Ever since I posted the first pass, I thought a lot about the world building of this series. Looking back on my original character sketches, it seemed like I had these characters for some sort of modern setting, but why would they be in a modern setting? I thought about these characters being some kind of elemental guardians in a fantasy world and I suddenly felt even more inspired. I love the Chinese inspiration for Fire and decided to build off that! I decided to keep going with the fire burn scars idea from design B of pass 1.
Notes and thoughts behind the specific designs:
🔥A
- Literally design E from pass 1
- Gave some fire pattern to her outfit
- I really like this design, but it feels too formal and not very fantasy-esque
🔥B
- Liking the idea of her having bandages over her chest
- Tried giving her a hairstyle without buns but at this point it just feels empty
- Non-symmetrical design is pretty cool but this specifically falls flat
🔥C
- Thought back on design B from pass 1 and decided to combine that design with Chinese accents
- I like the idea of her having longer hair
- Same fire pattern as design A
- Her scars and muscles are more visible
At this point, I feel very satisfied with design C, so I'm going to go ahead with that design for her. Next up will be color studies for her and I'm going to be redrawing her picture to better suit her current design.
Feedback and suggestions are welcome as well!
