Either you’re in or out, and being that his family was so invested he didn’t have a choice. Once his conscience started to kick in, he was a dead man walking. His only way out was to cooperate like he started to and hope witness protection could save him. As me being somebody who been in the game and been to prison I have seen this story played out countless times. Love this show because it’s real, and it shiws the game being played from all angles and the consequences that come with it

2024-12-08 16:09:21 +0000 UTCIt's easy to say D should have been smarter but D just witnessed Avon casually kill a bunch of inmates, including one that D was friends with, and days later Avon just wants him to be cool with it and go tell the warden lies in the hopes of knocking off some years. It's not realistic at all based on the mindspace and emotional maturation D has gone through to expect him to just roll with that like he's a robot. He's the same guy that felt intense disassociation just by going to an upscale dinner and not feeling right about it. So how was he gonna feel right getting right back in bed with the people that murdered Wallace, killed all of those innocent people back in season 1, and just hot shotted random inmates. There is no "smart" way to move in that kind of bullshit, especially if you're not fully committed. A man must have a code, and D chose his. He'd rather do his years as a penance to clear his soul then get back in bed with leeches like Levy and go back to being a puppet of Stringer and Avon just to knock his 20 years to 12 or whatever. I think it was admirable that he found his code, he threw away his drugs and decided to get real with his story and face those 20 years. Just tragic that within that game, drawing that line in the sand meant a puppet master like Stringer felt he had to pull that other string.

It basically clouds their judgement. Also, the reason Levy brought up if Omar is testifying to get a lighter sentence, because if that's the case, he would be more prone to make up a lie and give up someone else as a means to get himself out of trouble.

The Wire is not an easy show to catch everything in the first time around so I give everyone grace.
