himerdinger's reaction to the hex core is based in deep lore within the world that this is set in. he is referencing to a world seed. 6? ( i forget how many) of these seeds are the foundations of magic in the world. throught the history of the world mages fought battles that ended and began new eras of war over these seeds. piltover was built to escape those mages. the hex core is basically an artificial world seed. that is why himerdinger is scared and rightfully so.
