Pre and post casting choices notwithstanding (I can count the Depp/Hammer performances I like on barely a whole hand), I actually enjoy The Lone Ranger as a mad western which somehow got 200 million of Disney money behind it. The Mouse House’s Heaven’s Gate (1980). Same applies to John Carter generally. Mortal Engines looked exceptionally YA dour from the trailers which didn’t sell me but the two things I know I do appreciate: the Junkie XL score and Stephen Lang as a steampunk Terminator. Maybe as an easy Christmas viewing in the future.
