Gut Check

Hey Folks,

I hope you can take a minute to help me out. The other day I was testing episode 9 and I worried that it might be confusing. I tried to keep people in the loop with the summaries that start each episode, but I think even those aren't enough for people to keep up with everything month after month.

In episode 9 we learned a big twist about Denise. A few months ago when I originally wrote the script I was beaming about this legendary twist and eagerly awaiting it's reveal.

But I have a feeling my story beats are not landing because there's so much going on, and because there's a month of wait time from one episode to the next.

What do you think? Are you finding anything confusing? I may need to overhaul the episode summaries with character summaries too, so everyone can keep up with it all.

Any feedback would be really appreciated.

Yeah, that might help

Sorry for the delayed response here. I normally speed through the previous episode before I start the new one. I do not get the entire story but just enough to remind what happened last month. You might take 4 or 5 key pictures and do an "as previously seen" like a lot of television shows do.

I like that idea, 'cause you can clarify/remind players of certain things (e.g. who is who, for example for the recap in episode 9: "Tide, newly assigned member of the Monster Ops, and Tide, his squad leader", "Commander Jackson, Monster Ops' CO" etc.). Maybe add a choice to skip the recap for those who are already familiar with the characters and the plot).

You could maybe include an updating character chart from chapter to chapter. It could use character portraits and arrows to track who is controlling whom, who fucked whom, who killed whom, etc

That's a good idea. Thank you.

I’d suggest maybe have an overall plot summary at the beginning of each chapter, followed by a summary of each chapter. So you could describe the broad direction and plot points of the entire story, and then go into specifics of who and what was introduced or revealed in each chapter
