Warptorio Endgame Base: the Blueprint Design phase (the full development)

Hi everyone!

This is the final post in the unedited "Warptorio final test run" series I've been posting here on patreon over the last 2 months or so (to everyone new here wanting to give it a watch, you'll find all the relevant posts under the "collections" tab). The warptorio gameplay aspect ended in the last video post, and this post contains all 6 videos of the endgame blueprint development, for the select few who want to watch it. It's another 40-50 hours, similar to the length of the gameplay of the WHOLE final test run itself lol, it took quite a while to puzzle everything out for this one. Well, it's a good pracice for the 10k SPM megabase future series, as the calculations are similar-ish, but the builds and resource flow will be way bigger of course, though we won't be cramped for space I imagine. Anyway, make liberate use of the timestamps provided at the end of the posts and as chapters in the videos themselves to skip ahead to the parts which seem most interesting to you. I'll highlight a couple of my own favorite sections too.

Progress on the warptorio series is good. I finished the edit of the gameplay aspect of the opening episode, but I'm still working on the first half of the video, which explains a bit about what warptorio is, and what the challenge is going to be. The voice script is finished and recorded, but I need to set up and film a bunch of specific scenes to illustrate the script still, which is some of the more time-consuming work. I expect the whole first episode to be done by next friday, after which the following episodes should be easier to produce, depending on the exact video format used.

Anyway, linked below are the 6 development videos and the relevant timestamps, with my personal favorite parts in bold!

Enjoy!

Michael

PS: I recommend watching these in 1,5x speed!

Warptorio Blueprint design 1 - Planning in Excel

https://youtu.be/u9wNHsaUnPo

2:25:43 Purple Science

2:47:01 Yellow Science

3:25:55 Space Science

4:19:10 This is the remix. Radios play the remix. Why is this remixed. Good Q. Here's the A. This chapter has a long name.

4:28:10 The Master Table (Combining all production requirements together)

5:15:54 Calculations Complete: Coming up with the Endgame Base Idea

5:37:09 The 2k SPM Schizofrenic Belt/Bot Base (and a nice bonus vanilla SPM spreadsheet)

5:53:15 Special Oilativity: Calculating Advanced Oil Processing into Petroleum Gas

6:42:21 General Oilativity: Calculating ALL Advanced Oil Processing needs for the whole base simultaneously

Warptorio Blueprint design 2 - The Labs, Central Divide idea, Oil stuff, LDS

https://youtu.be/AXlVzuLbeTc

In general: the first half of the video covers many of the more defining concepts which will shape the blueprints' design. The plastics design has a cool quirk to it.

Chapters:

0:00:00 Wait... HOW MANY LABS???

0:33:10 Lab design done & the Central Divide idea

0:59:30 Making an Overview of All Machines we need to fit

2:51:57 Where to put the Oil Refinery and the Rocket Silo Pair

3:05:24 Oil processing & Rocket Fuel

3:35:55 Heavy oil, lubricant & sulfuric acid on the Central Divide

3:57:14 Oil cracking

4:47:53 a simple Mistake in the oil calculations

5:01:47 Fixing the Oil cracking setup & more accurate rocket fuel production

6:15:12 Plastics & inserter-to-belt limits

7:29:07 LDS

Warptorio Blueprint design 3 - Bricks, LDS smelting, Color Coded Science, Central Divide, Botframes, RCU, greens

https://youtu.be/pAfHJR2m7J4

In general: 2 of the coolest base parts are developed in this video: the color coded science setup is extremely awesome, and the unwired RCU mechanical sushi belt is another unique gimmick of this base. Further, of all the smelting parts, the ones at the start at the video are probably the most interesting compared to those in later videos. It's still smelting though, so I didn't make them bold.

Chapters:

0:00:00 Stone Bricks Smelting

0:42:45 Copper & Steel Smelting for LDS

2:07:30 Botside RCU design

2:48:15 How about some Color Coded Science!

3:25:11 Figuring out how the Central Divide should work with equal resource draw from belts and bots

5:07:47 Botframes

5:32:46 Extreme Belt Weaving concepts

5:43:40 RCU Mechanical Sushi Belt without any circuit network!

6:34:08 Green chips for Blue chips

Warptorio Blueprint design 4 - Central Smelting area, Blue chips & Modules

https://youtu.be/d8lToJE9w4U

In general: it's smelting. what'd you expect. it's not uninteresting per definition, but it just takes way too long to design for my liking. anyway. to compensate, this has the first partial base test run!

Chapters:

0:00:00 Central Smelting area 1/3: iron and copper

1:48:19 Central Smelting area 2/3: iron and copper

3:01:38 Central Smelting area 3/3: Steel

4:54:12 Smelting + Central Production Test run!

5:33:41 Smelting for Red & Blue chips

7:03:35 Blue Chips & Modules

7:57:16 Test run!

Warptorio Blueprint design 5 - beltside red chips, all the rest of botside, and wiring

https://youtu.be/gHXKylQhjao

In general: red chips is not too crazy, but it DOES mark the successful compeletion of the entire belt-side of the base! the bot side, as expected, is very easy to set up, and it's mostly trying to make it look good.

Chapters:

0:00:00 Red Chips (and the 1k SPM Belt Base side is DONE!)

0:58:05 Blue chips Botside

1:17:10 Green chips and Engines Botside

2:12:53 LDS Botside

2:27:07 Will ALL the remaining 100ish furnaces still fit in the little leftover space we have???

3:23:35 Are we done?

3:33:45 Active provider chests and Requester chest setup for the Labs

4:16:14 Fixing the lab setup (chaining bad!) and Science Wiring

4:52:43 Rocket silo & Sattellite Setup

5:18:10 All other logistics chests setup

6:39:24 the 2k SPM Belt/Bot Blueprint v1.0 Fully Finished and Ready2Test!

Warptorio Blueprint design 6 - Troubleshooting Time

https://youtu.be/CvwdlaXjSbY

In general: it's a 10 hour troubleshooting video... another hit&miss I guess, though probably a miss for most. we just keep applying fixes until everything works as it should, and boy, there are literal dozens of mistakes in the initial design!

Chapters:

0:00:00 The Testing & Troubleshooting Turmoil Begins!

2:13:48 Testing & Troubleshooting Session 2

2:56:26 Testing & Troubleshooting Session 3

3:05:51 Testing & Troubleshooting Session 4

4:23:56 Testing & Troubleshooting Session 5

7:45:52 Testing & Troubleshooting Session 6

9:10:50 Applying the final changes and final 10h test

9:23:03 Post-10h-test: It Is DONE!

Comments

So, wow! While I haven't watched any of these videos yet, I have completed #6 of the 7 that you've uploaded so far. I must say that super spidertron is quite impressive. But I am always a sucker for new toys of death and destruction in Factorio. Thank you so much for all the work you put in to create these videos. Not only are they entertaining to watch, but they have given me tips and ideas for my own Factorio playthroughs (of course, balancing play time with video time is another challenge). So thanks again and keep up the great work.
