IMPORTANT NOTE and October 2024 Voting

I know voting is a little late this month, but I'll leave it open until Nov 1. So, important note. Patreon is being forced to remove most of it's billing options by Apple. I don't have any choice in the matter, so I'm gonna try to make this as painless as I can. This means that many projects need to update, as does OpenForge. We'll be forced into a monthly fee approach, billed on on the day you join (or for existing patrons, billed on the first of the month). I originally set up the per release approach because it aligned my incentives with yours. I only get paid if I'm producing things, and you have always been able to pick how many releases per month you want to pay for.

Well, after running this project for something like 7 years, I've fallen into a cadence of doing 3 releases per month and have done so most months for years. Patreon is going to convert people to a monthly fee based on the largest number of releases I've done in the past few months, which unsurprisingly is 3 and I'll do 3 this month to ensure nothing changes for any of you. They will convert you all to monthly and respect any limits you've set for number of releases, so upshot is that nothing from a billing perspective will change.

What will change is I'll probably need to go redo the tiers for future patrons, but I really want to see how the current patrons translate into monthly fees before I draw any lines. All of you will be grandfathered into what your tiers give you, so don't worry, again, nothing there will change for you.

The second change is that I'll probably change how I release each month. I probably won't bother making it into three posts like I do today, and I may experiment a little with it. The idea being is that the existing release approach sort of constrained me based on what I could get done for three reasonable releases per month. This may actually open up a fair bit of space for me to both do smaller things that get included in the month's work, but also to doing maybe a single bigger focus on an item. In short it makes the creative space a little larger I feel, and that's a good thing.

If you have any concerned, please reach out and I'll be happy to answer any questions. Thank you al!

No problem, I'll just wait and see and adjust if necessary.
