January 2020 Tile Voting

I've done a lot of rework on the voting form.  First off to get it all to align to the OpenForge Tile Tree, but also to simplify a number of things.

Secondarily, this is a time to check in and see what all people are using.  This is mostly curiosity, as the vote directs me to what's most important to people, but I would like to get a picture of what kinds of textures and tile types people are using.  I try and only do this once a year just to get an idea of where the patrons are at on this stuff.

Finally, I'm checking to see what people use as far as our options.  If we can eliminate some never or rarely used options, that would reduce the overhead of making tiles, which would make it easier this year to tackle some of the more aggressive things like the scatter.  Right now it's fairly hard to get to the more complicated ideas because the support for so many systems means a lot of overhead to get any release out that is mostly not creative work.

I'll keep the voting open until next friday.  Thanks for your support!

๐Ÿ‘ Thanks. I just measured the base and it's only 5mm high after printing. I don't know how to measure my file, but I believe you. Also, upon further examination, the bottom of the base looks slightly flared, TOTALLY supporting your guess that it's squishing it. Now to figure that out, cause my Ender has been Printing pretty good lately, but I hadn't thought to measure thickness.

Comparing base.plain.inch.2x2.magnetic.openlock.stl and base.plain.inch.2x2.magnetic.openlock.topless.stl and both are 6.01mm in blender. One case where I've seen bases get thinner is if the extruder is too close to the build plate. You might also want to print a 20x20x20 mm cube and use some calipers to make sure that your printer has not become off on one of the axes.

Masterwork Tools

which specific bases are you looking at. I'll pull them into blender and make sure there isn't a mistake

Masterwork Tools

I did actually and compared it next to the bases I normally use. One is slightly taller. ๐Ÿ˜• You drew it though, I'll check again, it might have just been that one...

That may be a problem with the print leaving behind some stringing or extra plastic inside the hole from overestrusion. The program that generates them literally just adjusts the height of the openlock bay to cut through the top. Otherwise it's exactly the same. Adjusting the z is a quick fix, but you may want to look inside the hole and see if you are overextruding.

Masterwork Tools

Do I need to print them increasing the z by a bit?

So I printed several and finally got around to trying these cool bases and they're about a mm too short compared to the other bases I've used :( so the magnets stick out juuuuust slightly.

Dante Nava

Cool, thanks! I need to get my inventory and printing line up organized.

The new links were posted on January 2nd in a post titled OpenForge Resources. I have to recycle the link from time to time, but I'll keep updating that post and sending notifications as I do.

Masterwork Tools

Is there a new link for the Dropbox? Mine hasn't worked since you posted the flow chart. Thanks!

Dante Nava

I don't use the clips often, but when I do they are really handy, so I like to have it as an option. Otherwise, I also prefer the magnets.

Masterwork Tools

You can find them with the bases in https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2740279/files as bases.plain.inch.magnetic.openlock.topless.v?.zip Or in the OpenForgeSupported Dropbox under tiles/bases/inch/bases.plain.inch.magnetic.openlock.topless.v20190221

I didn't even realize that those "recommended" bases existed!!! What are they called so I can start using those? I really like the magnets, but I know some people like the clips.

Dante Nava

Fair point, I swapped them

Looking at the tile tree, I'd like to see arrow slits and alcoves before a second type of door and window. It looks like it may not be a hard dependency, based on the wall on tile set, and 80% of the time the doors or windows I'm describing to my players aren't an exact match for either of the available syles, so the tile is just denoting it's existence anyway.
