2024/02/14 - Refreshed Dropbox link

The old link was allowing editing and as a result a patron deleted some files out of the dropbox.  No harm was done, and I've restored the files, but I did generate new links: OpenForge/OpenForge.Rename (They are also updated below)

2023/03/21 - Pro Acryl Discounts

Over the past year, I've become pretty enamored of Pro-Acryl paints.  They've become my primary paint for miniatures, and increasingly I've been using them for details or really anything other than the main base coat for my terrain/tiles.

So I reached out to them and asked if there was a way to get a discount for the OpenForge community, cause you know, never hurts to ask.  Well, they got back to me, and agreed to give me one.  If you want to give them a try, I secured a 10% discount for the community.

2023/02/27 - USB Flash Drives

We’re offering the entire OpenForge collection through 12/2022 on a single USB stick in our online store, Masterwork Tools. It’s $35 for about 1400 unique designs. All designs remain available here on Patreon and on Thingiverse and MyMiniFactory, but this is a nice convenience if you don’t want to spend all that time downloading files. Use the code PATREON23 at checkout for free shipping on anything in our store.

2020/08/28 - updated links, added OpenForgeZips, renamed main folders to be less confusing.

I decided to use the start of the new year to reorganize some of the links that will help all of you find the things you need, and I've made a few new resources as well.

First off, we have the new OpenForge Tile Tree.  You can think of this as something like the tech tree in many video games, where it shows the full breadth of an OpenForge tile set, and the order in which releases are unlocked.

Next we have the OpenForge Tile Inventory.  This spreadsheet contains every set (I'll be updating it over the next few days to make sure I'm not missing anything), with links to the Thingiverse entry.  It also will tell you the sizes we have, what connection systems the tile supports, if it will be supported in the future for updates, and if it is currently up to date with all current standards.

Following that, we have the OpenForge Vote Tally.  Here you can see what tile was selected for the vote for each month, as well as the current vote tally for each set/tile.  As a reminder, the " Which Standard Set " and " Which Thick Wall Set " is used to select the set to update that month, and then the votes inside the set are used to select the tile.  Because of this, for the sets that get fewer updates (say like Rough/Ruined stone), the vote totals on specific tiles can be very large compared to those that get upvoted for updates more often (such as Dungeon Stone).

Finally, we have our Dropbox/Sync links.  OpenForge/OpenForge.Rename (I'm in the process of migrating files to a universal naming scheme with files being migrated from OpenForge.Rename into OpenForge) contains all the tiles that we currently support, sorted for (hopefully) easy access.  There are still many tiles from older sets to be moved into OpenForge, some which need minor tweaks (Rough/Ruined Separate Wall for example) and some that need a major overhaul (Sewers).  OpenForge is so large, that Sync chokes if you try and download it all at once.  To help getting everything, I've created OpenForgeZips.  You will want to download the zips one by one to keep Sync from choking on it.  For downloads of individual releases and browsing, OpenForge is still the right place.

As time has gone on, some experiments have not proven to be worth continuing.  You can find the things I no longer support (such as the old Tudor set that has been superseded by Towne), you can find all those tiles in OpenForgeDeprecated (Dropbox *).

Finally, access to the parts and pieces I use to make tiles is available on request.  The only reason I don't share this automatically, is that it's *HUGE*, and so a lot of people downloading it at the same time can cause me to go over limit on Dropbox, cutting off Dropbox access for everyone for the rest of that day.

I've just regenerated the links to OpenForge and OpenForgeDeprecated.  I do that from time to time as people leave the patreon.  In the future, I will update this post (and send a notification) every time I regenerate the links.

* IMPORTANT, PLEASE READ

Please do not download the entire folders from Dropbox.   Either folder is larger than the maximum amount of bandwidth that Dropbox offers per day.  If you want to download everything, use the zip links, which are updated monthly.

Comments

I did not read this entire thing before trying to get started downloading stuff from Dropbox. I'd recommend that you put the important "please read" section at the top. I apologize if I caused a download limit issue for today.

Jared Jenkins

Dropbox seems to be missing diagonal walls and internal concave section options which are available on thingiverse

Jack Jack

The best way to download everything as indicated by Devon, is to download the subfolders over the course of a few days.

Job van der Looij

Sorry If I broke your dropbox download max. I am trying to find the correct version and link to download from. Can someone please share that and how I should download them. thanks Rich

Rich Thorne

So, Is the "rename" the "new" names, or the "yet-to-be-renamed"? I.e., if I'm starting off, which subfolder set should I start with?

Stuart Mackey

I see the download link for 'buildings' is huge (534G). What is in it? Are there photos or other references?

Bradley Caloia

Well, I suppose I'll check back in later on. I'm way too many rolls of pla deep to abandon out now cause cause it's absent some floors :)

Tim Marks

6x has yet to be made for towne. Every radius has to be created separately, so some sets have more than others (dungeon stone is out to 8x for example)

Masterwork Tools

hey there. im seeing the Towne curved pieces only show the standard 2x floor for the exterior stuff. normally i think it goes up to 6x. are they no longer in use or is this a transitional thing?

Tim Marks

This is great, especially the Tile Inventory as the links show a little preview image for some part confirmation. Thanks again for the excellent tiles. Question: The files on request for remixes, are these Fusion360 or Blender or something else? I'd like to play with remixes, but I'm only educated with Fusion.

Rich

Okay I need to appolgize off the hope. I'm new as of today and like an idiot i ran before reading. If I've damaged your max download in dropbox for the day I fully apologize for this. I'm now downloading the zipped files.

Michael Young

Hi, thanks for the awesome work. Just an info - sizes written for ZIP archives for Streets and Buildings are incorrect. Streets are not 10,5 GB but 3,4 GB and Buildings should be in MB not GB :)

Tomáš Hornik, Ph.D.

Yeah, I can get those updated. I'm trying to get the releases nailed down for April, so it will probably have to be early next month, but I'm putting in a ticket to handle it.

Masterwork Tools

Hi, It looks like some of the zips are out of date (at least the Dungeon Stone, Separate Wall). Is it possible to update them, so we dont use up the dropbox limit?

Gaute

Wondering if there are any plain/smooth separate walls anywhere? I'm making a dungeon that's supposed to be smooth obsidian walls and want to appproximate something like that.

Benjamin Ehrenreich

Start of this year has seen a bunch of cleaning house, but it's on the list

Masterwork Tools

When I first started the project, I did it based on measuring dwarven forge tiles, and I thought it was 25mm per square, not 25.4 (1 inch) per square. About 4 years ago I pivoted to defaulting to 1 inch, and about 2 years ago I dropped support for 25mm.

Masterwork Tools

No, the zip files need some updates. I'm hoping to tackle that in march.

Masterwork Tools

what is the difference between 25mm and inch?

Gabriel Sistter

Are all the things on Dropbox in the zip links?

Gabriel Sistter

Are the dates next to the zip files the last update date or the original file creation date? I just want to check a few of the files to see if they've been updated since downloading.

Bryan S Carter

For those that haven't been able to open the Tile Tree, I was able to open it with the web page: app.diagram.net. This is a free online diagrammer.

Bryan Clauss

That is very confusing, I haven't got the faintest idea what is new or what I haven't downloaded?

Quentin Christensen

What file format is the tree image? I cant read it in the google drive preview when you zoom in it is still blurry When I download it comes down without an extension. I have tried to open in several programs but none will read it.

Warren Sistrom

I am unable to download Towne Wall on Tile. Tried it several times in the last few weeks. It starts and then after 20 mins it says network error. EDIT: apparently it has a quotum on an IP? When I switch my VPN I can download it again or resume it.

Rob Fox

Greece, and you're totally right, the issue is my location. I connected to USA via VPN and it totally worked!

YourNeighborKnight

Ok, that's super strange. What country are you in?

Masterwork Tools

nope, neither is loading, what could it be? I downloaded one of the zips 10 days or so ago

Masterwork Tools

Still doesn't work for me, tried everything. Am I the only one having this problem?

YourNeighborKnight

Which links are broken? It's hard for me to tell because I have to be logged in to dropbox and patreon to test these, which means I have elevated permissions

Masterwork Tools

Are the links working for everybody?

YourNeighborKnight

Dungeon Stone Ruined: Wall on Tile is actually pointing to Dungeon Stone: Wall on Tile zipfile

Ernest McCloskey III

The "Cut Stone: Wall on Tile (2021/11/29, 4.1G)" link doesn't appear to be working. The message from Backblaze is "File with such name does not exist."

Richard Sorden

What exactly is your open forge tile tree formatted in? I can't find anything that will open it. It says something about diagrams.net. I downloaded it as a PDF but the resolution was horrid. It's not a picture, it doesn't have a file extension. What is it?

Asteroids Fred

Thick Wall Tiles: Sewers (2021/08/31) 1.3G seems to give 404

Retired Android

Sewers has a dead link (404).

David Weshenfelder

I'm trying to find the 25mm base for the 25mm separate walls but all I am able to find is the inch versions which don't fit. Could anyone point me in the right direction? I've been hunting through the deprecated and current dropbox folders to no avail.

Colin Doyle

That had not occurred to me. I can add month zips too.

Masterwork Tools

I'm a little confused. Will there be monthly "update" zips, so that we can only download the new files each month if we've already downloaded the archives? It would be nice if you updated the archive zips each month but kept 6 months of updates around. So those of us who downloaded in June, for example, and don't have time til september, and just snag the 3 updates, not have to download 100+ gig again.

PUGDOG Enterprises, Inc.

This is so helpful. Thank you so much for everything you do.

Jarrett Heale

It was in the latest update, I'm leaving Sync because it is a constant problem for people. Temporarily you can use this Dropbox link: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/e7me6r0otfvon0i/AACHNoDCArBhdrBJNvXVZfYaa?dl=0 One word of caution on it though - The OpenForge folder is larger than the largest daily bandwidth cap that dropbox offers, so please don't download everything in one go. If you are looking to do that, let me know, because I can get you some links to current zip files. I'm working on a replacement for Sync, which I should have in place later this month.

Masterwork Tools

Sync says that you've been placed on an accounting hold.

Bailey Ezra Thorson

MMF Thing? Sorry, I'm not following?

Godzilla

Sorry, somehow I missed this. I don't presently have a hosting presence. I can get the zips up to google drive for now. The MMF thing is working out, but it's going to take a while to get everything moved.

Masterwork Tools

Well, I'm trying to download the files via sync, and it's performance is horrible. I do have a hosting presence, so I could put up an SFTP, or some other repository if you'd like to do that? I certainly don't mind donating some space to this...

Godzilla

Sync is the name of the service, but yeah, it's download. I used to use Dropbox, but Dropbox has a fixed 200G/day limit that you can't pay to raise. I've got over 200 gig in designs, so I had to pivot off of dropbox because my entire dropbox stopped working every time I did a release and it locked everyone out for a day each time it went over 200g in that day. I'm working on a download solution via MMF that may work out, but the project is just too large for dropbox now.

Masterwork Tools

Okay, am I missing something? I can see the sync based archive, but I don't see any way to sync that down? Just download ZIPs from Sync.com? Is there a dropbox equivalent? I can mirror the dropbox archive, if there is...

Godzilla

Why did you end up not working on some files? the Volcanics look great, was it a design issue or a mechanic issue?

Tom pollitt

I have same problem with download.. only 100 kb/sec .. Could you plz check that ? thx

Markus

Hi,

Markus

The download speed of sync is suuuuperslow (100 kb/sec, even dropped to 50kb/sec). It's impossible to download bigger files (or well you havbe to download for days :x)

Multensor

Found it! Under accessories in the root folder :)

Helgi Freyr

I can't for the life of me find arched doors to put into the Dungeon Stone 2x2 narrow and normal arched door(-walls). Where do I find those? :)

Helgi Freyr

Turns out I had updated the link in the text but not the link in the list. Both are updated now.

Masterwork Tools

Turns out I had updated the link in the text but not the link in the list. Both are updated now.

Masterwork Tools

Same here - is there a fresh link for OpenForgeSupported?

Alex A

I'm Getting 404 error when clicking the OpenForgeSupported link. was the link regenerated and this wasn't updated yet?

Double

Oh, looks like I have not added them. I'll get them in over the weekend.

Masterwork Tools

Looking at the Tile Inventory I can't seem to find the Caves and the Mines set. Am I missing something?

Farnaby

Thank you!

Nancy Hutchins

Yeah, I have it as an image. I'll drop it into the tiles folder of the OpenForgeSupported Dropbox

Masterwork Tools

Can the Open Forge Tile Tree be saved in an Excel or graphic format for downloading and viewing?

Nancy Hutchins

Awesome thank you so much for the quick replies!

Colton D Burkholder

Yep, you find a base with the same letter code (such as A or BA) and the locking mechanism you want. You'll want *.magnetic.openlock.* bases. The names of the walls are based on printable scenery's tile map: https://www.printablescenery.com/product/open-lock/

Masterwork Tools

Ya, I get it, I think it is awesome that all these tile creators have allowed for compatibility. I am going to use magnets, so I just print a wall with .openforge and then print a magnetic base to glue it? Also, is there sizing for the walls like a 2" wall for a 2x2" tile or does it not matter as much since the are not on the tiles and could be put across multiple sections of floor?

Colton D Burkholder

Yeah, sorry about the naming there. I started OpenForge a long time ago, but then printable scenery created OpenLOCK as a locking mechanism later on. Separate wall tiles that have *.openforge.* in the name are files you need to glue bases on. There's multiple base options, but the main deal here is if you want to use magnets. If not, print the *.triplex.* files, which are single piece prints, and give you 3 openlock connectors per 2x2 face.

Masterwork Tools

I am super new to the Openforge system and 3D Printing in general, I have read the starting guides but can't seem to figure out what the Openlock name is referencing. I am trying to print the Cut Stone Separate walls and only have Openforge tiles so far and it is a bit daunting and the Openlock name is confusing me. Any help is appreciated! Also, love all the tiles and tools, they are awesome!

Colton D Burkholder

Looks like you have to click through the "Open with Draw.io Diagrams" on the top. I didn't realize it generated an image. I just did the normal Google Docs sharing. Lemme know if that doesn't work, and I'll see if I can figure out another way.

Masterwork Tools

I love all of this, the first tile tree link is so pixelated it's illegible.
