Post releasing the first two pieces of the volcanic cavern set, I got a lot of feedback from people who have actually seen basalt pillars in person, and the single largest piece of feedback is that the pillars in scale are too small. I would judge that in scale, the pillars are about 9 inches across, but the real pillars are generally 1-2 feet across, and can even be larger.
So, I've designed two test files. One in scale makes the pillars about a foot across, the second is about 18 inches across. Past that it becomes a bit hard to make these work for a tile, though I could certainly attempt larger.
I've attached pictures and stl files for all three sizes, and I've made them all available in the new patron dropbox folder for OpenForge tests.
I'm leaving this poll open for a week. Print out the three sizes if you like, and tell me below which pillar size you prefer.
I do think that the small set is still potentially useful for crystal caves. If you think I should take more than one of these textures forward (which will eat up more releases, but get more of this style out), tell me which of them you think should continue to be produced in the comments.
Whichever one we settle on for the volcanic set, I'll re-release volcanic walls and floors without having that suck up any of november's releases.
