OpenForge Wall Construction Kit Released!

I'm sure you've noted that over the past month or two, I've been experimenting with designing tiles with parts that are painted separately then glued together.  External tiles, by their nature, are already suited to being built this way.  Getting the internal tiles built out so they could do it took a bit of rework and a lot of print testing, and now I think they are ready.

The main wall construction kit project on Thingiverse acts as a centralized place where you can find all the parts that can be used to make any wall.  As I release new tiles, I'll add any new parts to the construction kit or one of its sub-projects.

Currently, you can download sub-projects for holding stone-floor partswood-floor partsstone-wall backs and tudor-wall backs.  Anything new that fits those styles will make it into those projects, and as new styles are released, they will get their own parts projects to hold pieces that can be used with the construction kit.

Over time, I will be adding construction kits for each of the different basic tile layouts (wall, corner, corridor, dead end, diagonal, and curved).  Each one requires a fair bit of testing to make sure the final result is good, so it will take a while to stream these out.  Corners and dead ends, particularly, will require that I make a lot of new pieces to be able to put windows/doors/etc. on any segment.  Expect to see more constructions kits over the next few months.

I will continue to produce full tiles as well as full tiles with full bases (as one piece). The survey communicated that many of you prefer that, but many also like the idea of being able to build new combinations of tiles from a series of parts.

Thanks for the input :D

I think you will find them to be too unstable. Bases are 6 mm. Wall designs tend to be 5.2mm for the part of it that attaches to the floor and 38.8 for the rest of the wall, making the wall part total out at 44 mm. A 2x2 tile is 50mm on all three dimensions

Well.. this is really nice. Now I can print a ton of walls and a tone of tiles and just combine them however I need them. Thanks a lot! Do you know what height the base has? Because I was thinking of modifying the height of the walls so that I wouldn't need to add them to a base anymore - just use them as they are. Would this be ok or would the walls fall?

That's awesome, and it shows precisely what makes a system like openforge stronger than others!

Yeah, it makes getting them painted and prepared for pictures substantially faster, which was one of my bigger bottlenecks. Now with each wall design I only need to print and paint the back. Major upside is that now people can easily do wooden floors with stone walls or vice versa, which I think matters a lot as I'm really getting to the designs that are needed for cityscapes.

Wow this is really cool. This is a great idea and I imagine it should make adding new designs much easier for you. Nice work!
