the software and hardware are functionally the same for the most part. the m1 isn't a synth, just a rompler (sample-based). that's why it makes sounds that other synths can't - it's not a synth ;)

But heh, I don't own either right now. I've found that there's usually some surprising sounds that any synth should be capable of... they're just gems you gotta dig for. Maybe I should nab the korg collection and try to make something that sounds like this for giggles.... hmmmmmmm
