I definitely enjoyed Nerdy's reaction to this, but I do think he's looking at it like it was a B movie(I love B movies, but I also don't hold them to the same standards as a major Hollywood movie). D&D had a $45 million budget and a full release to theaters a few months after X-Men (which had a somewhat comparable $75 million budget). Thora Birch (the Empress) was nominated for a best supporting actress BAFTA for her American Beauty performance while this was in production. It was marketed like other major action movies of the time. Nearly everyone I knew was expecting.... well basically what we eventually got with Honor Among Thieves.... instead we got effectively a B movie.
