The way you talk about Oda at the end of 437 is kinda how I see him - that he's trying. Like, he's the definition of "he's a bit confused, but he's got the spirit." He was writing this in a mainstream manga in 2009 Japan! To make a character like Bon Clay, who is a rounded, multifaceted character and not just a joke during that time period is kinda amazing. Not that he's above reproach or that we should just ignore the problematic stuff. But because it feels like you can feel his heart, his effort, in creating these characters, as misguided or clumsy as it can be at times, it makes it easier to digest. To still love the whole and appreciate the pieces that do work.

2025-06-16 17:12:04 +0000 UTCThe four seas is T-ball league, Paradise Grand Line is JV sports and the New World Grand Line is for the Varsity players. The Straw Hats def aren't in Varsity yet. I would say, Warlords/Navy Captains are College players and the four emperors/Admirals are Pro players.
