Regarding the approach to Seattle, they said they were going through Snoqualmie Pass so they would have been coming from the east, but the only entries into Seattle from that direction would have been 2 easily defended bridges. To sneak into Seattle, they would need to circle either to the north or the south and it's about the same distance either way.
