This arc will surpass your expectations

Hamza Jirrari

Sabaody is coated with scum and resin just like how the ships are too! The politics really creep up on you in One Piece and sometimes it's just more hidden. Every arc has a moral and political backing to it, just sometimes its more subtle than say sabaody or orange town (Nami's hometown). Really, for a portion of people you could go through this and think goofy pirate show with okay shonen fights and ships you cry over. But then you can also peel back the layers and find meanings and callbacks and themes that resonate so much deeper. Like as a kid, you may think that Namis' backstory is sad but still sucks because she lost her mom, but when you're a parent, and you're watching that scene, you may feel even sadder at bellmere actually calling her two daughters daughters not just because she was a cool parent. There are lots of sad ways this goes and why lots of One Piece people either rewatch the show with reactors, reread the series or whatnot. You want to see how these things come together for everyone and their own reactions.... but glad you are learning more about the undercoating of the one piece world. That said, there is a lot in sabaody and its such a contrast to orange town like how Arlong (like every other fishman) named his place Arlong Park ... because he too wished he could go to Saboady park! So many layers and nuance to it. Also as a final point, in the manga a lot of this is paced better so it hits harder as well. Along with how Law actually flipped the bird at Kidd during that scene, which is why he said it was bad manners
